Over 261 000 visitors - thank you all!

The overall number of visitors to the Helsinki Festival, which finished on Sunday 5 September, reached 261,000. Ticketed events attracted a record-breaking 105,000 visitors, whilst 156,000 art lovers participated in the free events.

The 2010 Helsinki Festival programme featured numerous international visits and also steps into the new, e.g. a brand new opening club night blending classical and electronic music, and the House Music series which took chamber music back to its origins, into the private homes. The Stage theatre festival, produced by Korjaamo Theatre and Helsinki Festival, attracted a record-breaking 4,700 visitors and the Huvila Festival Tent sold out 9 of its 17 concerts.

Helsinki Festival's largest one-off urban event, the Night of the Arts, attracted again huge crowds to the centre of the Finnish capital. According to police estimates, more than 60,000 visitors turned out to enjoy the more than two hundred events organised across the city in the course of Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday. The organisers and the authorities both commended the event, now in its 22st year, for its relaxed atmosphere.

The next Helsinki Festival runs from 19 August until 4 September 2011.
